I was raised in Methodist parsonages…my dad served, among other churches, First UMC DeLand when I was in elementary/junior high school. Called to the ministry when I was six years old, I went on to college and seminary in Atlanta.  Since 1973 I have pastored churches in Melbourne, Jacksonville and New Smyrna Beach.  Retiring in 2015, I have spent part of each year in Jerusalem, Galilee and Rome assisting Christian tour groups.

In May Becky Rutland and I will celebrate fifty years of marriage.  We have a son in northern California (two grandchildren), a son in northern Virginia (two grandchildren), and a son who is disabled and lived with us in New Smyrna Beach.  We love to travel, cut and burn firewood at our cabin in the North Carolina mountains, and explore rivers in our 13’ Boston Whaler.

I am a recent graduate from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in Music and Religious Studies. I have been involved in music my entire life and began taking guitar lessons at 8-years-old. When I was a sophomore in high school, I began leading worship for my youth group and discovered my passion and calling to it. In college I received classical voice training and continued to grow in my faith and musical abilities at my campus ministry, the Wesley Foundation. While born and raised in Tennessee, I felt called to Florida after serving in two summer internships in Orange Beach, AL. Back in Tennessee I continue to have a close, loving relationship with my parents and older sister but love pursuing my passion while also being able to relax at the beach anytime I want!

Office Manager

I was raised in a military family and traveled the first twenty years of my life. I settled down in Port Orange in 1978. My husband and I have been married 44 years, and we have one daughter and two grandchildren. I retired in 2017 from the corporate world and God decided that he needed me in the administrative capacity here at Covenant due to my experience supported by a Master’s degree in accounting and an MBA. My passion is Bible Study and serving where needed. Some of my close friends call me “Nerd Girl” which is a title I am proud to wear. I am excited to continue to serve this congregation in this capacity starting my fifth year. I am available to you anytime. I am a phone call and a prayer away. Covenant is such an exciting place to be currently. I hope I have the pleasure to get to know each one of you.
