March 20th Kidz Dayz at Port Orange City Center are fast approaching.

More volunteers are needed 9am to 4pm to warmly greet and help families and their children become acquainted with what Children's Ministry and Children's Academy of Fine Arts CAFA) offer here at Covenant.  If you have a fun talent to share---balloon animals, face painting, guitar picking...come share it with the kids at the church's Kidz Dayz booth.

Helpers to make follow up calls and deliver give-away gifts are also needed. Sign up now at the Welcome desk or call Tracy Jansen, 767-8544 and 761-9794 0r 334-7941.

MISSION TRIP TO SOUTH FLORIDA

March 26-30^th, 2010

We will be working for the 8^th consecutive year with DOOR Miami. This is a GREAT mission for new missionaries who would like to try a mission and GREAT for experienced missionaries as well. You do not have to be the poster child of physical fitness to participate, we just need a willing heart. 

We have a limit of 20 persons and still have openings for anyone interested in going.   The cost of the trip is $160 (includes $50 non-refundable deposit) and includes transport, all meals, lodging, and a t-shirt.

AFGHANISTAN’S OPERATION WARM HEART

We have the opportunity to help children who have lost their families due to the fighting in Afghanistan. Sue Macchiarella recently received an e-mail from a friend stationed in Kabul. The following are excerpts from the e-mail. Her friend states: “I’ve personally seen these programs here…they give clothing and toys to very-very needy families and this brings tremendous good will to the Afghan people from the United States….these programs remind the Afghan people that we aren’t here to make their lives more miserable as they have suffered for the past 30 years under extremely harsh conditions.”  “We had $3M of community projects completed, opened medical clinics and made an impact on those who we mentored. We have built some good relationships with our Afghan counterparts knowing that we did make things a little better then we found it. ”

“One project, I need your help with is called OPERATION WARM HEART. I am asking for 1 box from you (white boxes that are used to send things to APO/FPO addresses available in the church office and also at the Post Office  and are free for the taking) …and carry a flat rate of $12.95 no matter how much you put in there). Each box would have something for a child at a local orphanage. The age range is 1-15 and there are about 100 girls and 120 boys. Most kids are between 6 and 10. I am looking for one outfit for either a girl or boy, a pair of slip on sandals (open or closed toe), school supplies and a small toy. NONE OF THE TOYS CAN BE BATTERY OPERATED. Some ideas for the younger kids are: boys – cars, trucks, football, Lego’s, any toy. For the girls – dolls, bubble kit, girly things. Puzzles and other gender neutral toys are fine, too. It can be just clothes, just toys, just school supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, sharpeners, paper, backpacks) or any combination…whatever you want to give. And if you want to donate gently worn clothes only, that would be great, too.”

“If you are willing to support OPERATION WARM HEART, please send the packages to me. I will organize all the goods and prepare them for our visit to the orphanage. ”

We share in the loss of Rev. Alexis Fernandez Moreno’s mother this past week in Cuba. Rev. Moreno is the pastor of our Sister Church, Entronque de Manati in the Las Tunas district of Cuba.Rev. Moreno states in an e-mail to Covenant “Just a few hours ago, my mother went to be with the Lord; but I am sure that one day I will see her and rejoice in her presence once again.” Please be in prayer for Rev. Moreno and his family. You may write cards of condolence and drop them off at the church office – they will be sent to our sister church in Cuba.

Also, lift up our sister church that they might continue to be blessed. They have planted 4 other churches and continue to grow. They are a vibrant  and spiritually rich group of believers in a very economically poor and remote area of Cuba about 8-10 hours outside of Havana (Entronque de Manati in Las Tunas).
